Smart campus system using internet of things: simulation and assessment of vertical scalability

Abstract: Background/Objectives: Scalability in the Internet of Things is meant for future extension in Internet connected devices. The scalability can be classified into two broad sense in terms of future flexibility i.e., vertical and horizontal scalability and in terms of infrastructure of the Internet of things i.e., device, communication, gateway, and server levels. Novelty: In this article, a novel taxonomy of scalability is proposed and presented according to infrastructure and it is categorized into four levels … Show more

“…Other technologies include VR and AR, LMS, and cloud computing (Zhao et al, 2023). Razzaq, Mahar, Qureshi, and Abidin (2020) indicate that IoT creates smart campus infrastructure and help to manage building systems, energy use, and security. Moreover, classrooms and labs equipped with IoT sensors to monitor and enhance the educational environment.…”

“…The IoT technology is used in many fields of life, especially in education [3] to make the campus smart. The authors in [4] predicted that the number of IoT devices in 2025 will reach about 75 billion and presented scalability according to IoT infrastructure. These are of four types, i.e., device-level scalability, gateway level, communication, and server-level scaling.…”
