Smart city data architecture for energy prosumption in municipalities: concepts, requirements, and future directions

Abstract: Big data is gaining visibility and importance, and its use is attaining higher levels of influence within municipalities. Due to this proliferation smart cities are posed to deploy architectures toward managing energy for Electric Vehicles (EV) and orchestrate the production, consumption, and distributing of energy from renewable sources such as solar, wind etc. in communities also known as prosumption. In smart city domain, Enterprise Architecture (EA) can be employed to facilitate alignment between municipal… Show more

“…An integrative literature review methodology was employed to present evidence similar to prior COVID-19 study [9]. Integrative literature review aims to expediently assess prior studies that are appropriate to the specific research topic in order to present a fair assessment of an investigated topic using a rigorous and trustworthy approach [31][32][33]. The methods employed for this study are discussed in the subsequent sub-sections.…”

“…Some studies provide an overview of smart city projects and describe different case studies [5,22]. However, most research focuses on specific smart city domains, such as security and data protection [23][24][25], networking [26], detection of anomalies [27,28], transport [29][30][31], energy consumption [32][33][34], business [35] or government [36][37][38]. Thus, they centre on delimited problems that make projects more manageable.…”

“…The latter reviewed open prediction models for open data sets that help to understand different behaviors classified by building type. Anthony Jnr [21] reviewed various approaches of enterprise architectures and energy prosumption in smart cities to propose an architecture for energy prosumption management in residential buildings and electric vehicles in smart cities using open, online, and historical data. In addition, Terroso-Saenz et al proposed the IoTEP platform [22], an open IoT-based system for energy data management and analysis.…”
