Visually impaired persons (VIPs) comprise a significant portion of the population and they are present in all corners of the world. In recent times, technology proved its presence in every domain of the life and innovative devices are assisting humans in all fields especially, artificial intelligence has dominated and outperformed rest of the trades. VIPs need assistance in performing daily life tasks like object/obstacle detection and recognition, navigation, and mobility, particularly in indoor and outdoor environments. Moreover, the protection and safety of these people are of prime concern. Several devices and applications have been developed for the assistance of VIPs. Firstly, these devices take input from the surrounding environment through different sensors e.g. infrared radiation, ultrasonic, imagery sensor, etc. In the second stage, state of the art machine learning techniques process these signals and extract useful information. Finally, feedback is provided to the user through auditory and/or vibratory means. It is observed that most of the existing devices are constrained in their abilities. The paper presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of the state-of-the-art assistive devices for VIPs. These techniques are categorized based on their functionality and working principles. The main attributes, challenges, and limitations of these techniques have also been highlighted. Moreover, a score based quantitative analysis of these devices is performed to highlight their feature enrichment capability for each category. It may help to select an appropriate device for a particular scenario.

In recent years, significant work has been done in technological enhancements for mobility aids (smart walkers). However, most of this work does not cover the millions of people who have both mobility and visual impairments. In this paper, we design and study four different configurations of smart walkers that are specifically targeted to the needs of this population. We investigated different sensing technologies (ultrasound-based, infrared depth cameras and RGB cameras with advanced computer vision processing), software configurations, and user interface modalities (haptic and audio signal based). Our experiments show that there are several engineering choices that can be used in the design of such assistive devices. Furthermore, we found that a holistic evaluation of the end-to-end performance of the systems is necessary, as the quality of the user interface often has a larger impact on the overall performance than increases in the sensing accuracy beyond a certain point.

The eyes are one of the most important senses in the human body. They are used to understanding the surrounding situation so people can understand what is around them. Visual impairment is divided into two types, total blindness and low vision, depending on the degree of disability. A standard walker is a stick that helps you assess the condition of the road and the obstacles in front of you. The developing electric mobility aids are not only walking sticks. A glove-shaped walker was developed to detect objects before the tent and provide information from beeps and vibrations. Produce a walker using a visually impaired smart bracelet using sensor technology to help the blind's vigilance and mobility capable of detecting objects at a predetermined distance. The tool successfully outputs information in human voices recorded in DFPlayer Mini according to the conditions of ultrasonic sensor readings and monitoring of smart bracelets through the blynk application. Operation There are buttons used to turn the system on and off. All sensor inputs and outputs will be processed using the ESP-8266 NodeMCU. From the test results of the entire system, it can be concluded that the smart bracelet runs optimally according to the block diagram the author has compiled.
