Background Nutrition service needs are huge in China. Previous studies indicated that personalized nutrition (PN) interventions were effective. The aim of the present study is to identify the effectiveness and feasibility of a novel PN approach supported by artificial intelligence (AI). Methods This study is a two-arm parallel, randomized, controlled trial in real world scenario. The participants will be enrolled among who consume lunch at a staff canteen. In Phase I, a total of 170 eligible participants will be assigned to either intervention or control group on 1:1 ratio. The intervention group will be instructed to use the smartphone applet to record their lunches and reach the real-time AI-based information of dish nutrition evaluation and PN evaluation after meal consumption for 3 months. The control group will receive no nutrition information but be asked to record their lunches though the applet. Dietary pattern, body weight or blood pressure optimizing is expected after the intervention. In phase II, the applet will be free to all the diners (about 800) at the study canteen for another one year. Who use the applet at least 2 days per week will be regarded as the intervention group while the others will be the control group. Body metabolism normalization is expected after this period. Generalized linear mixed models will be used to identify the dietary, anthropometric and metabolic changes. Discussion This novel approach will provide real-time AI-based dish nutrition evaluation and PN evaluation after meal consumption in order to assist users with nutrition information to make wise food choice. This study is designed under a real-life scenario which facilitates translating the trial intervention into real-world practice. Trial registration This trial has been registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2100051771; date registered: 03/10/2021).

Deep learning algorithms and technology based on 5G networks may be able to help identify unusual behavior in elderly people. Because 5G networks have a lower latency and a greater bandwidth, it is possible to use more complex algorithms and larger data sets for training and detection in a real-time. On top of that, real-time analysis of the data gathered through in-home monitoring of the elderly can become much simpler to carry out with the help of 5G's potential to simplify the process. However, the system needs to be developed in a way that it considers the preferences of the most important criteria of elderly people, who have more requirements in terms of their living situation and the environment in which they live. Therefore, this study advocated using ''Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory'' (DEMATEL) to analyze the most crucial criteria (feature) required for creating a model for identifying odd behavior in elderly persons. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Long Short-Term Memories (LSTMs) are adopted in detecting unusual behavior in the elderly after the analysis key criteria for predicting unusual behavior in the elderly by DEMATEL. The research established a concept by linking the SIMADL dataset with the dimension of elderly people's behavior and performed an experimental analysis using both CNN and LSTM. Performance evaluations show that the LSTM performs better in detecting unusual behavior in elderly persons with 96% accuracy. Depressive disorder is the most significant aspect of ageing that might lead to a typical unusual behavior in elderly persons, according to DEMATEL analysis.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic had a tremendous impact on the global medical system. The development of private hospitals is an important measure to deepen the reform of China’s medical and health system, and an important driving force to improve the effective supply of medical services. This study aims to compare the performance of China’s private hospitals before and during COVID-19 and determine the factors that affect hospital profitability between the 2 periods. Data are collected from 10 private listed hospitals from 2017 to 2022, and ratio analysis is used to measure hospital performance in 5 aspects, namely profitability, liquidity, leverage, activity (efficiency), and cost coverage. Multiple regression analysis is used to determine the influencing factors of hospital profitability. The results show a negative impact of COVID-19 on private hospital performance. Specifically, regardless of region, hospital profitability, liquidity, and cost coverage were reduced due to COVID-19, while hospital leverage was increased. COVID-19 had also an impact on hospital efficiency. In addition, before COVID-19, current ratio and cost coverage ratio were the determinants of hospital profitability, while only cost coverage ratio affected hospital profitability during the COVID-19 outbreak. We provide evidence that COVID-19 had an impact on China private hospitals, and the findings will aid private hospitals in improving their performance in the post-COVID-19 era.
