“…SC-based interventions show promising beneficial results on mental health [13, 14, 58, 76]. Its potential still needs to be confirmed by robust trial designs with appropriate allocation concealment, double blinding of participants to ensure generalization of these results.…”

“…All of them were cross-sectional, and no mental health outcomes were considered. A more recent systematic review, published in July 2017 by Coll-Planas et al, [58] searched for the impact of SC interventions on health outcomes in older populations. Although it did not focus only on mental health assessments and the included population were older than 65 years old, their results support the positive potential of SC interventions on population’s mental health.…”

“…Although the evidence derived from these observational studies yielded mixed results, a more recent work by Coll-Planas et al (2017) highlighted the potential of SC interventions to reach comprehensive health effects. Despite the need for higher quality research, this review can be used as an evidence base to support SC interventions from a public health perspective, including people with neurological disease (Coll-Planas et al, 2017). The included studies were very heterogeneous preventing a meta-analysis, and the risk of bias was high or unclear for all but eight trials.…”

“…social or other meaningful activities). Second, it can affect capacity, or motivation, to problem solve and manage the activities of daily living (Benbow & Bhattacharyya, ; Coll‐Planas et al, ; Hjelle, Tuntland, Forland, & Alvsvag, ; Lee, ; Mlinac & Feng, ; Storeng, Sund, & Krokstad, ). Given that older age increases the risk of poor mental health, and the associations between mental health and other core outcomes, work to further understand the extent, and how, reablement affects mental health outcomes appears highly pertinent.…”
