Gated Communities and Crime in the United States

“…Conversely, nonresidents may find themselves unable to partake in the activities located within a private community and instead must seek other activity hubs. The reduction of shared activity spaces between gated and nonresidents, then, may promote relations between community members but reduce the interactions and social ties between members and nonmembers residing within the same broader community (Lemanski 2006;Low 2003;Mantey 2017; but see Asiedu & Arku 2009). At the same time, there are important reasons to question levels of social organization in gated communities.…”
