Social Immersion for Women After Repair for Obstetric Fistula: An Experience in Guinea

“…Post-surgical fistula repair reintegration programmes exist to support and optimise a woman's successful recovery from surgery and transition back into society, her community and the life she desires to lead. Education, job-training and safe housing are often components in these important programmes [24][25][26]. Due to possible pregnancy trauma and the culturally imposed importance of childbearing for most women recovering from having a fistula, addressing fertility desires, creating culturally sensitive family planning interventions and ensuring access to contraception may be equally as important for women's successful recovery from their fistula and continued future health.…”
