Social sustainability of tourism in a culture of sensuality, sexual freedom and violence: Trinidad and Tobago.

Abstract: This chapter examines the adverse social conditions and sexual tensions arising from the 'carnival mentality' of Trinidad and Tobago represent a major threat to social sustainability. The objective of this chapter is to portray the true nature of the present social condition of Trinidad and Tobago as it relates to the fledgling tourism industry. The pre-Lenten Trinidad Carnival will be used as a springboard to facilitate study of the dynamics of a society locked into a 'carnival mentality'.
