Social Sustainability: Satisfying Owners and Communities by Multilevel Strategies of Contractors

Abstract: In sustainable construction/production, the social dimension regarding owner and community satisfaction has received the least focus. To promote social sustainability, the multilevel strategies of contractors should be developed for owner and community satisfaction. However, a literature review shows that there are few studies on how multilevel strategies influence such satisfaction. Hence, this study aimed to analyze such influences. A survey was conducted to gather data from the Thai construction industry, a… Show more

“…However, multiple stakeholders and their complex interrelations and impacts on communities during construction additionally complicate ongoing processes. Therefore, it is essential to expand the sustainability assessment and management framework and develop more complex, interdisciplinary, and integrative multileveled strategies (e.g., with respect to corporate, business, and functional aspects) [48]. The strategies represented in this paper address these complex, diverse, and multileveled relations and interdependences by proposing a theoretical framework encompassing several interdisciplinary categories relevant to sustainable construction.…”

“…These building and construction managers mostly come from the ranks of A/E firms or basic specialists that may or might not preserve dual functions in the service of the proprietors. Regardless, the proprietor can depend on the service of a single prime professional to take care of the entire process of a building and construction job (Kawesittisankhun & Pongpeng, 2020). Nevertheless, like the A/E companies of numerous years earlier, the construction managers are valued by some proprietors yet not by others.…”

“…Since then, user satisfaction has aroused wide attention in the marketing community and has been developed through the theoretical construction of multiple researchers [11]. The research on owner satisfaction by domestic and foreign scholars has primarily focused on the evaluation of owner satisfaction [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19], using owner satisfaction as an important criterion for measuring the success of engineering projects [20][21][22][23][24], and the factors that affect owner satisfaction [25][26][27][28][29]. For example, Li (2018) used a BP neural network to analyze the evaluation indexes of the effect of the entire process of turnkey engineering on customer satisfaction, to guide construction enterprises in improving the satisfaction of owners with turnkey engineering [30].…”
