Sociophysics: A Review of Galam Models

Abstract: We review a series of models of sociophysics introduced by Galam and Galam et al in the last 25 years. The models are divided in five different classes, which deal respectively with democratic voting in bottom up hierarchical systems, decision making, fragmentation versus coalitions, terrorism and opinion dynamics. For each class the connexion to the original physical model and technics are outlined underlining both the similarities and the differences. Emphasis is put on the numerous novel and counterintuitiv… Show more

“…In the order to achieve his goal he used 44 (LS) Archimedean lattice. However, also with the aim of improve this criterion other researchers studied MVM on several other topologies that are not Archimedeans [39,[43][44][45][46][47][48]. To their surprise all results obtained for the critical exponents are different from results obtained by M. J. Oliveira, and are also different for each topology used.…”

“…At odd with such innovative prevailing views, we present a model inspired from sociophysics [14,15,16,17,18], which produces bubbles as equilibrium states of a given market and crashes as the emergence of a new equilibrium. The model is rooted in neoclassical economy combined with the Galam model of opinion dynamics as the underline mechanisms leading to the step by step aggregation of individual choices towards the final collective equilibrium state.…”

“…It does not aim at an exact description of the reality but at singling out some basic mechanics which may be rather counter intuitive. Initiated more 33 years ago [21,22], it has started to become a main stream of research only in the last decade [14,15,16,17,18].…”

“…This section briefly reviews Galam's model in [5], [6], along with some of its features. In order to introduce the latter model we preliminarily consider the following process.…”
