“…The SOFA score reflecting organ dysfunction in patients after ROSC is highly correlated with the outcome, similar to other studies, but our data are meaningful since prehospital SGA demonstrated an association with good neurologic outcomes despite adjusting SOFA. Our data suggest that, regardless of severity after resuscitation, SGA has a protective effect on the brain, which is more susceptible to hypoxic damage than other organs, by providing earlier and better oxygenation.…”

“…However, most of these studies did not adjust postresuscitation variables but adjusted only prehospital and resuscitation variables. Postresuscitation variables, such as organ dysfunction scores at survival admission and targeted temperature management (TTM) application, also have an influence of the neurologic outcomes of cardiac arrest victims . Therefore, we hypothesized that if we adjust postresuscitation variables, it would provide more clear evidences for the association of the prehospital use of SGA during CPR on the neurologic outcome of cardiac arrest victims.…”

“…Kaukonen et al (22) also documented the inability of SIRS to stratify the severity of illness. SOFA score has been used as a front-line tool to grade disease severity in ICUs (20, 23, 24). We investigated the possibility of grading sepsis according to SOFA scores.…”

“…[18][19][20][21] Contrarily, both the the Sepsis-related Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score and the Pittsburg Cardiac Arrest Category, based on SOFA in combination with neurological symptoms is able to predict mortality and morbidity. [9,[22][23][24] Therefore, it is plausible that an increasing degree of organ support, and in particular RRT, reflects a severely injured OHCA-patient, explaining the distinct prognostic impact of RRT found in this study. Last, our study findings may reflect that the in-hospital course in itself affects the ability to return to work.…”
