In the last few years, many smart objects found in the physical world are interconnected and communicate through the existing internet infrastructure which creates a global network infrastructure called the Internet of Things (IoT). Research has shown a substantial development of solutions for a wide range of devices and IoT platforms over the past 6-7 years. However, each solution provides its own IoT infrastructure, devices, APIs, and data formats leading to interoperability issues. Such interoperability issues are the consequence of many critical issues such as vendor lock-in, impossibility to develop IoT application exposing cross-platform, and/or cross-domain, difficulty in plugging non-interoperable IoT devices into different IoT platforms, and ultimately prevents the emergence of IoT technology at a large-scale. To enable seamless resource sharing between different IoT vendors, efforts by several academia, industry, and standardization bodies have emerged to help IoT interoperability, i.e., the ability for multiple IoT platforms from different vendors to work together. This paper performs a comprehensive survey on the state-of-the-art solutions for facilitating interoperability between different IoT platforms. Also, the key challenges in this topic is presented.

With the Internet of Things (IoT) becoming part of our daily life and our environment, we expect rapid growth in the number of connected devices. IoT is expected to connect billions of devices and humans to bring promising advantages for us. With this growth, fog computing, along with its related edge computing paradigms, such as multi-access edge computing (MEC) and cloudlet, are seen as promising solutions for handling the large volume of securitycritical and time-sensitive data that is being produced by the IoT. In this paper, we first provide a tutorial on fog computing and its related computing paradigms, including their similarities and differences. Next, we provide a taxonomy of research topics in fog computing, and through a comprehensive survey, we summarize and categorize the efforts on fog computing and its related computing paradigms. Finally, we provide challenges and future directions for research in fog computing.

A computação em névoa tem sido usada como infraestrutura de processamento para aplicações IoT, trazendo benefícios como baixa latência para a aplicação. Entretanto, características como o dinamismo, a distribuição e a heterogeneidade dos ambientes de névoa trazem à tona vários desafios no tocante ao gerenciamento dos recursos disponíveis. Nesse contexto, apresentamos um mecanismo para gerenciamento de recursos e balanceamento de carga de forma descentralizada e autônoma. O mecanismo baseia-se no uso associado de blockchain e dos princípios da computação autonômica para lidar com os desafios do gerenciamento na névoa. Os resultados mostram que o mecanismo proporciona uma distribuição da capacidade de processamento na borda, mesmo em caso de falhas.
