Abstract-Nowadays, software systems are a key factor in the success of many organizations as in most cases they play a central role helping them attain a competitive advantage. However, despite their importance, software systems may be quite costly to develop, so substantially decreasing companies' profits. In order to tackle this challenge, many organizations look for ways to decrease costs and increase profits by applying new software development approaches, like Global Software Development (GSD). Some aspects of the software project like communication, cooperation and coordination are more challenging in globally distributed than in co-located projects, since language, cultural and time zone differences are factors which can increase the required effort to globally perform a software project. Communication, coordination and cooperation aspects affect directly the effort estimation of a project, which is one of the critical tasks related to the management of a software development project. There are many studies related to effort estimation methods/techniques for co-located projects. However, there are evidences that the co-located approaches do not fit to GSD. So, this paper presents the results of a systematic literature review of effort estimation in the context of GSD, which aimed at help both researchers and practitioners to have a holistic view about the current state of the art regarding effort estimation in the context of GSD. The results suggest that there is room to improve the current state of the art on effort estimation in GSD.

Resumen: El éxito de un proyecto de desarrollo de software depende de que el producto obtenido cumpla con las especificaciones del usuario y se termine dentro del plazo y con el presupuesto establecido. Muchos proyectos de software presentan el problema de no estar siendo desarrollados dentro del plazo planificado debido a una mala valoración del esfuerzo o duración del proyecto de software. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo determinar los factores que afectan la precisión de la estimación del esfuerzo en proyectos de software, usando Puntos de Caso de Uso como método de estimación. Un total de 37 estudios primarios fueron seleccionados. Los resultados muestran que los factores ambientales, la complejidad de los casos de uso, la falta de estandarización de los casos de uso, factores técnicos y contabilización de las transacciones son algunos de los factores que afectan la precisión del método de Puntos de Caso de Uso.Palabras-clave: Proyecto de Desarrollo de Software; Puntos de Caso de Uso; Estimación de esfuerzo. Factors Affecting the Accuracy of Effort Estimation in Software Projects Using Use Case PointsAbstract: The success of a software development project depends on that the retrieved product complies with the user's specifications and to be completed within the time and within the budget established. Many software projects show the problem about that they are not being developed within the time set due to a bad assessment of the effort or duration of the software project. This research has the objective of determining the factors that affect the accuracy of the effort estimation in software projects using the Use Case Points as estimation method. A total of 37 primarily studies were selected. The results show that the environmental factors, the use cases complexity, the lack of use case standardization, technical factors and counting transactions are some of the factors that affect the accuracy of the Use Case Points method.

-The estimates of the number of resources required in a software development project is an important part of the project planning stage. Estimates are activities that predict the output of a project by reviewing existing resources such as time, cost, risks to be faced, and the effort required to complete the project. Methods such as Use Case Points (UCP), which are based on the number of actors and use case complexity are popular as methods for estimating effort in software development projects. However, the weight calculation for the Unadjusted Use Case Weight (UUCW) as part of the UCP still has something called "not mathematically valid operations." Therefore, it takes an alternative way to calculate the weight of the UUCW.In this study, we implement a linear equation to determine the UUCW. The linear equation is derived from the value of the weight of UUCW on UCP original (UCP proposed by Karner). A linear line is created in which the x-axis is the center point of the transaction amount and the y-axis is the value of the weight of UUCW. Finally, we get the formula to determine UUCW, namely , where n is the number of use cases within system and x is the number of transactions within use case i.The test on the linear equation of UUCW conducted using 17 test data from software development projects of small and medium scale showed that the formula of linear equations for UUCW (new formula) gives a better effort estimation result of the estimation using the original formula of UUCW. It had been characterized by deviation values using the new formula of UUCW smaller than the deviation value using the original formula of UUCW
