Software engineering, HCI techniques and Java technologies joined to develop web-based 3D-collaborative virtual environments

Abstract: In this paper, we describe a set of tools, based on software engineering, HCI techniques and Java technologies, to support the software development process of 3D Webbased collaborative virtual worlds (CVE) populated by non autonomous interactive entities. This work is a first effort to define a methodology supported by design, analysis and implementation tools that assist the development of Webbased CVE. Our proposal emphasizes on the collaboration aspects among the entities that populate the virtual world and… Show more

“…In the literature review, collaborative programming has also been proposed as a way of improving students' learning. Research supports that collaboration is an effective pedagogical feature for introductory programming, and that pair programming, in particular, is appropriate for learning how to program (Guzdial et al, 1996;Menchaca, Balladares, Quintero, & Carreto, 2005).…”

“…However, the drawback of these environments is that they do not inherently support collaboration. Guzdial et al (1996) and Menchaca et al (2005) suggest that collaboration is an effective approach for computer programming. According to Casamayor et al (2009), collaboration is significant, because it stimulates learning, promotes feelings of belonging to a team, encourages creativity, eases communication and increases achieved personal satisfaction.…”
