Software Performance Modeling Using UML and Petri Nets

Abstract: Abstract. Software systems are today one of the most complex artifacts, they are simultaneously used by hundred-thousand of people sometimes in risk real time operations, such as auctions or electronic commerce. Nevertheless, it is a common practice to deploy them without the expected performance. Software Performance Engineering has emerged as a discipline to complement Software Engineering research in order to address this kind of problems. In this work, we survey some recent contributions in the field of So… Show more

“…Among formal models, the most active ones are extended version of Petri nets and queuing network (Balsamo & Marzolla, 2005). Through undertaken activities, Merseguer and Campos (2004) presented an approach with high degree of functionality. The method is based on labeled generalized stochastic Petri net.…”

“…A relatively straightforward translation to Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets (GSPNs) (described for instance in [1]) can be implemented using Labeled GSPNs (LGSPNs, described in [3][11] [12]). Fragments of a CSM model have direct representations as fragments of LGSPN, with labels that direct the composition of the fragments into a full model.…”

“…Among the translations using SPNs as target are [13][14][15], using SPA [16], using QN [17,18] and LQN [19,20]. Such methods use different approches and technologies: Customization Rules [21], XSL transformations [19], algebra-based transformations [22], direct formalization [23] or Graph Grammars [20]. For a survey of such translations see [24].…”
