“…Both surfaces of the specimen were polished with five different carbide sheets to obtain a smooth mirror‐like surface. Before start of a coating process, all polished plates were rinsed with acetone for 10 min under an ultrasonic bath followed by washing with double‐distilled water to remove the polished debris and metallic ions . The grade and elemental compositions of mild steel specimen were analyzed through the arc/spark optical emission spectroscopy (OES, ARL 4460; Thermo Scientific, East Grinstead, U.K.).…”

“…In addition, high-temperature oxidation behavior of a Al 2 O 3 /ZrO 2 duplex film deposited on a TiAl alloy by sol-gel processing was previously studied. 8 The duplex film significantly increased the oxidation resistance of the TiAl alloy at 900 and 1000 C by restraining the growth of TiO 2 and increasing the growth of the Al 2 O 3 in the formed oxide scales. The aim of this study is to deposit a nano-multilayered ZrO 2 /Al 2 O 3 thin film on a tool steel by CAPD and investigate the kinetics and mechanism of oxidation in the temperature range of 600-900 C. While the effects of deposition parameters on microstructure, composition, wear, adhesion, and microhardness in ZrO 2 /Al 2 O 3 films deposited by CAPD were previously studied, [14][15][16] …”

“…Hence, efforts to synthesize ZrO 2 /Al 2 O 3 by various coating techniques such as thermal plasma spraying, 1-4 electron beam evaporation, 5 electrolytic deposition, 6 7 sol-gel processing, 8 chemical vapor deposition, 9 magnetron sputtering, [10][11][12] and cathodic arc plasma deposition (CAPD) [14][15][16] have been actively pursued. ZrO 2 /Al 2 O 3 coatings have been synthesized in the form of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), 1-4 a single (Zr,Al)O layer, 5 double layers, 7 8 nanocomposites, [10][11][12] and multilayers.…”
