Sol-Gel-Prepared Nanoparticles of Mixed Praseodymium Cobaltites-Ferrites

Abstract: Two series of nanocrystalline powders of PrCo1 − xFexO3 (x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9) of high purity were obtained by sol-gel citrate method at 700 and 800 °C. The formation of continuous solid solution with an orthorhombic perovskite structure (sp. group Pbnm) was observed. A peculiarity of the PrCo1 − xFexO3 solid solution is the lattice parameter crossovers, which occurred at certain compositions and revealed in the pseudo-tetragonal or pseudo-cubic metric. An average crystallite size of the PrCo1 − xFex… Show more

“…4). Similar phenomena of the lattice parameters crossover were earlier observed in the mixed cobaltite-ferrites PrCo 1- x Fe x O 3 and NdCo 1- x Fe x O 3 [25, 26], as well as in the related rare earth aluminates and gallates R 1- x R ’ x AlO 3 and R 1- x R ’ x GaO 3 [2730], in which the end members of the systems show different relations of the lattice parameters. In spite of the observed peculiarities lattice parameters behaviour, the unit cell volume in La 1− x Sm x FeO 3 series decreases almost linearly with decreasing R -cation radii according to the Vegard’s rule.…”

“…As a result, a crossover of a p -and c pparameters occurs in Dy 1−x R x FeO 3 system. Similar phenomena were earlier observed in the related cobaltiteferrites RCo 1−x Fe x O 3 [21,22], as well as among isostructural rare earth perovskites R 1−x R x Al(Ga)O 3 [23,24], in which end members of the systems possess different relations of the unit cell dimensions. Figure 4 demonstrates evolution of the lattice parameters and unit cell volumes in Dy 0.5 R 0.5 FeO 3 series versus ionic radii of rare earth cations.…”

“…Peculiarity of the PrCoO 3 -PrFeO 3 system is a lattice parameter crossover [7], which results in four regions of PrCo 1−x Fe x O 3 solid solution with different relations of the cell dimensions ( Fig. 1, top part).…”
