“…This advantage of effective indices of solar activity can be explained by the fact that variations in the foF2 median with the solar activity cycle depend on not only the level of this activity, but also some other factors, including geomagnetic activity, which are not consid ered when using R 12 . The dependence of the foF2 median on geomagnetic activity was analyzed only in a few works and was based on the search for a depen dence of foF2 on Ap m (Sole, 1998) or Ap 12 (Xu et al, 2008), where Ap m is the monthly average geomagnetic activity index Ap and Ap 12 is the 12 month average value of this index.
