solarius: an R interface to SOLAR for variance component analysis in pedigrees

Abstract: Summary: The open source environment R is one of the most widely used software for statistical computing. It provides a variety of applications including statistical genetics. Most of the powerful tools for quantitative genetic analyses are stand-alone free programs developed by researchers in academia. SOLAR is the standard software program to perform linkage and association mappings of the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) in pedigrees of arbitrary size and complexity. solarius allows the user to exploit the va… Show more

“…Heritability of the parcel-wide features was estimated in R 3.6.3 (R Core Team, 2013) using SOLAR-Eclipse 8.4.2 (Kochunov et al, 2015) (http://www.nitrc.org/projects/se_linux; http://solar-eclipse-genetics.org/index.html) via the solarius package (Ziyatdinov et al, 2016) controlling for background variables: age, sex, race, ethnicity, and proxy brain volume. The categorical variables were recoded as dummies, with white or nonhispanic as reference category.…”

“…We used the SOLARIUS package for R (Ziyatdinov et al, 2016) to assess the following the (a) heritability of within BST‐CeA iFC; (b) co‐heritability of the within BST‐CeA iFC with each of the two principal components; and (c) phenotypic (rho), genetic (rhog), and environmental (rhoe) correlations between BST‐CeA iFC and each of the two principal components. We further ran a post hoc analysis, conducting the same tests but examining BST iFC with the superficial, centromedial, and basolateral amygdala regions.…”
