Solid Particle Erosion of Filled and Unfilled Epoxy Resin at Room and Elevated Temperatures

Abstract: Solid particle erosion at room and elevated temperatures of filled and unfilled hot-cured epoxy resin using an anhydride hardener were experimentally tested using an accelerated method on a special bench. Micro-sized dispersed industrial wastes were used as fillers: fly ash from a power plant and spent filling material from a copper mining and processing plant. The results showed that the wear of unfilled epoxy resin significantly decreases with increasing temperature, while the dependence on the temperature o… Show more

“…This phenomenon conrms the previous research conclusion that the mechanical properties of materials directly affect their erosion resistance. 47 In order to visually understand the mechanism of particle erosion, the morphology of the samples aer erosion was characterized. As shown in the super depth of eld images (Fig.…”

“…Epoxy resin, as an important thermosetting resin, is popularly applied in various areas; for instance, in adhesives, civil engineering materials, aerospace materials, electronic machinery, electrical insulation materials, and various composite materials [ 23 , 24 , 25 ]. It has the characteristics of a strong bonding force, high physical and mechanical strength, chemical resistance, durability, excellent process performance, good high-temperature stability, low curing shrinkage rate, and excellent electrical insulation performance [ 26 , 27 , 28 ]. Epoxy resin is a commonly used binder in the preparation of permeable concrete.…”
