Solid Polymeric Nanoparticles of Albendazole: Synthesis, Physico-Chemical Characterization and Biological Activity

Abstract: Albendazole is a benzimidazole derivative with documented antitumor activity and low toxicity to healthy cells. The major disadvantage in terms of clinical use is its low aqueous solubility which limits its bioavailability. Albendazole was incorporated into stable and homogeneous polyurethane structures with the aim of obtaining an improved drug delivery system model. Spectral and thermal analysis was used to investigate the encapsulation process and confirmed the presence of albendazole inside the nanoparticl… Show more

“…Thus, cellular extension disruption not only inhibits tumor growth but is also vital for tumor cell dissemination and metastasis (Ross and Hunger, 2017). Similar morphological changes in MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cells as a result of albendazole treatment is reported (Racoviceanu et al, 2020).…”

“…5 mL samples were collected in each case at ¼, ½, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 18 and 24 h to evaluate the release profile of acyclovir. Briefly, the concentration of acyclovir was assessed spectrophotometrically by means of an UVi Line 9400 Spectrophotometer SI Analytics (Mainz, Germany) using calibration curves for acyclovir for each dissolution medium; the compositions of simulated gastric/intestinal medium were already described in one of our previous papers [ 25 ]. All the measurements were conducted in triplicate in order to gain statistical value.…”

“…Among various trials to overcome this problem, the most successful approach is to formulate or conjugate it into nanostructures or nanoformulations, in practice of improving aqueous solubility [ 358 ]. Albendazole-cyclodextrin complex, M1·albendazole, albumin nanoparticles, chitosan nanoparticles, solid lipid nanoparticles, PLGA nanoparticles, albendazole-copper oxide nanoparticles, and solid polymeric nanoparticles are examples of so far designed nanoformulations of albendazole [ 358 , 359 ].…”
