Solitary pancreatic metastasis of extremity myxoid liposarcoma: a case report and literature review

Abstract: BackgroundMyxoid liposarcoma has a distinct migration aptitude; however, pancreatic metastasis is rare.Case presentationWe report on the case of a 40-year-old female patient who suffered solitary pancreatic metastasis of myxoid liposarcoma and had a right thigh myxoid liposarcoma radical resection 5 years ago. The patient underwent a medial pancreatectomy and pancreaticojejunostomy for solitary pancreatic metastasis of myxoid liposarcoma. After 12 months of disease-free survival, the patient underwent an exten… Show more

“…Liposarcomas-including well-differentiated, dedifferentiated, myxoid/round cell, and pleomorphic subtypes-constitute the second most common soft tissue sarcomas. 7,8 Myxoid liposarcoma(ML) is the second most prevalent liposarcoma. 1 One third of patients with ML develop metastases which generally has poor prognosis.…”

“…1,5,13 Patients with extrapulmonary involvement have better survival than those with pulmonary involvement. 1,8,9 In one study by Lin et al on 4181 patients with liposarcoma (19.9% ML subtype), the metastasis rate was 5.4% which more than two third of them were extrapulmonary. five-year survival in metastatic patients was 12.1% with mean survival of 21.4 months.…”

“…This oncoprotein interacts with DNA promoters, causing dysregulation of downstream protein expression (7,8). Unlike other types of liposarcoma, MLS exhibits a propensity for metastasis to atypical sites, encompassing the lung parenchyma, soft tissues (abdominal or chest wall), retroperitoneum, mediastinum, epidural space, breast, liver, thymus, pancreas, lymph nodes, and bones (9)(10)(11)(12)(13)(14). Choosing the appropriate imaging modality is crucial for the accurate diagnosis and effective management of patients with STS (15).…”
