Soliton-number measurement in lossy waveguides

Abstract: A general technique for obtaining the soliton number, and hence the nonlinear coefficient, in wave-guides with high dispersion and loss is derived and demonstrated numerically and experimentally in a kilometer-long standard silica fiber pumped close to 2 µm.
