Solubilities of Sodium, Potassium, and Copper(II) Sulfates in Ethanol−Water Solutions

Abstract: The solubilities of (sodium and copper(II)) sulfate þ ethanol þ water mixtures have been determined at (278.15, 288.15, and 298.15) K and for the potassium sulfate þ ethanol þ water system at the same temperatures and also at (308.15 and 318.15) K. The equilibrium composition for different points has been calculated by means of refraction index and density measurements. An empirical correlation for the solubilities of the ternary mixtures has been used to correlate experimental values as a function of the sol… Show more

“…But several data cannot keep consistent with the tendency, especially the density value of KCl-H 2 O at T = 308.15 K in Ref. [34] and refractive index data of K 2 SO 4 -H 2 O at T = 318.15 K in reference [33]. Maybe, it can be explained by different conditions, such as the precision of apparatus.…”

“…Cooling and evaporation, which are usually considered in the crystallization process, lead to high energy consumption and production cost. The antisolvent crystallization is usually considered a potential way to save energy and improve the crystal quality, because the water activity is lowered and the solubility of the salt is decreased with a suitable antisolvent added to the mother liquor. Adding ethanol to MAP solution to precipitate MAP is a novel method to produce MAP, and it is of great potential to energy saving.…”
