2012) Solvent effect on condensation of pyramidal [AsSe 3 ] 3-: solvothermal syntheses of new selenidoarsenates containing transition metal(II) complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline, Journal of Coordination Chemistry, 65:18, 3316-3328, The reactions As 2 O 3 , Se and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) with NiCl 2 and ZnCl 2 in water at 140 C for 5 days afforded selenidoarsenates [Ni(phen) 3 ] 2 [As 8 Se 14 ] (1) and [Zn(phen) 3 ] 2 [As 8 Se 14 ] (2), respectively. The reactions with CoCl 2 and NiCl 2 in CH 3 OH aqueous solution produced polyselenidoarsenates [Co(phen) 3 ][As 2 Se 6 ] (3) and [Ni(phen) 3 ][As 2 Se 6 ] (4). All transition metal ions are octahedrally coordinated by six nitrogen atoms and all arsenics are trigonal pyramidally coordinated by three seleniums. In 1 and 2, eight [AsSe 3 ] 3À trigonal pyramids joined via edge-sharing to form [As 8 Se 14 ] 4À with condensation grade of 0.571. [As 8 Se 14 ] 4À contains two As 3 Se 3 and one As 6 Se 6 heterocycles. The formations of the selenidoarsenate anion [As 8 Se 14 ] 4À in 1 and 2 and polyselenidoarsenate [As 2 Se 6 ] 2À in 3 and 4 show solvent effect on condensation of trigonal bipyramidal [AsSe 3 ] 3À units under solvothermal conditions.
