Solution Equilibria of Binary and Ternary Systems Involving Transition Metal Ions, Adenosine 5‘-Triphosphate, and Amino Acids

Abstract: Solution equilibria of the binary and ternary systems involving M n+ ion, adenosine 5′-triphosphate, and some mono-and dicarboxylic amino acids (M n+ ) Cu II , Ni II , Co II , La III , and Ce III ) have been investigated potentiometrically at (25 ( 0.1)°C and I ) 0.10 mol dm -3 (KNO 3 ). The formation of the different binary and ternary complexes is inferred from the corresponding titration curves. The stability constants of the various complexes formed were determined and discussed in terms of the nature of b… Show more

“…Metal ions play key roles in several important biological processes [59][60][61], and the interactions between metal ions with nucleotides and other orthophosphoric acid esters in living systems has received considerable attention [62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69]. In all metabolic processes, nucleotides only participate as substrates in the form of their metal ion complexes [70,71].…”

“…On the other hand, the horizontal distance between curves e and f (Figures and ) was measured and used for calculation of the number of the A 1- anion as a secondary ligand attached to one binary complex molecule of the primary ligands [HL 1 , (HL 2 ) 1- , and H 2 L 3 ] ( n mix ) for a mixed ligand ternary complex. The equation used for such a calculation was the same as reported elsewhere: ,, Here C M is the concentration of the 1:1 binary complexes of the primary ligand which is equal to the concentration of M n + used, C L is the concentration of the secondary ligand (HA), and y is the number of dissociable protons of HA ( y = 1). V f is the volume of KOH consumed to reach the same pH values in curve f. In this case, the n H values are the average number of protons associated with the secondary ligand HA at different pH values.…”

“…Negative ∆H°s conveys that the reactions are exothermic, and negative ∆S° are the indication that the complexes are more organized than the reactants. Some workers have conducted research on complex systems of mixed ligands as ternary complexes with transition metal ions which needed sophisticated softwares and more rigorous treatment of data [47][48][49][50][51].…”
