Solution Growth and Investigation of the Single Crystals from the CePdIn System

Abstract

We report on the investigation of recently discovered heavy fermion compounds within the Ce-Pd-In system. Single crystals of CenPdmIn3n+2m (n = 2, 3, 5; m = 1, 2) and Ce4Pd10In21 were synthesized from In-ux. Specic heat measurements of the multiphase CenPdmIn3n+2m system revealed a superconducting transition at Tc = 0.69 K arising from Ce2PdIn8 and another, magnetic transition at Tm = 1.67 K arising from either Ce3PdIn11 or Ce5Pd2In19. Low-temperature data of Ce4Pd10In21 display ferromagnetic long-range order below 0.8 K.

Point-contact spectroscopy of heavy fermion superconductors Ce2PdIn8 and Ce3PdIn11 in comparison with CeCoIn5

Similar to Ce 2 PdIn 8 , Ce 3 PdIn 11 also crystallizes in the tetragonal structure with space group P4/mmm, with a CeIn 3 -block and PdIn 2 units alternating along the [001]-direction [15][16][17]. The unit cell owns two inequivalent crystallographic Ce-sites denoted as Ce1 and Ce2, where the Ce1-site resides in a Ce 2 PdIn 8 surrounding while the Ce2-site has a CeIn 3 -like environment.…”
