Solution to collision detection based on bounding box in Vega Prime

Abstract: Collision detection in Vega Prime is based on the simple line segment, and collision detection based on bounding box is not realized. By studying the composition of three-dimensional object, we define a collision detection class, which inherits from vplsector. After finding out all vertices of geometry in object, we connect these vertices one by one and constitute a trend line. The trend line constitutes our bounding box. Now, our collision detection is based on three-dimensional objects, but not the simple li… Show more

“…Vega offers a variety of Volume types including Box, Sphere, Cylinder, Frustum, points, lines, polygons, and segments. The Z method, LOS method, ZPR method, and HAT method are composed of a vector segment, hence, they can only detect if there is a collision occurs on one direction [3,4]. Nonetheless, BUMP method consists of 6 perpendicular segments, all six segments extend along the X, Y, Z three axes in the direction of the positive and negative, which constitute a box.…”

“…All around can detect whether there is a collision occurred. The size for the box composes of these segments are determined by three parameters, which is VGIS_BUMP_ WIDTH, VGIS_BUMP_LENGTH and VGIS_ BUMP_HEIGHT [4]. Moreover, Intersection test information such as the position, orientation, etc detected by BUMP method is saved in result array.…”
