Solvent Extraction Behavior of Silver with the Secondary Phenylamide Derivative of the Trident Molecule

Abstract: The secondary phenylamide derivative of a trident molecule has been prepared as a novel solvent extraction reagent to investigate and to compare its extraction ability with its corresponding monopodal analogues, for the extraction of precious and base metals in nitric acid solution. The extraction ability of the trident extractant was superior to that of the monopodal analogue. The secondary phenylamide type of trident molecule exhibited extractive selectivity for silver and divalent palladium over other preci… Show more

“…This effect may be attributed to the presence of concomitant ions in the sample solution originating from the sample, generating hydrophobic complexes or ion pairs that may be co-extracted to the organic phase. [32][33][34][35] Nevertheless, in this sample, an improvement of approximately 40% in sensitivity is achieved using DDTP at 0.01% m/v, justifying its use. DDTP concentrations above 0.01% m/v cause a decrease in the analytical signal, which may be due to saturation of the organic droplets or formation of charged complexes, with a consequent decrease in the extraction efficiency.…”

“…1,1,1-Tris(aminomethyl)-9-decene ( 8 None{3}CH 2 NH 2 ) was prepared through four steps of condensation to make 1,1,1-tris(hydroxymethyl)-9-decene [17,22,23], tosylation [24][25][26], azidation [25][26][27] , and amination [19,20,[25][26][27]. Other chemicals were purchased and used without further purification.…”

“…They also provide three-dimensionally arranged coordination site for guest molecules or ions [25][26]. They were employed as extraction reagents and ion-selective electrodes [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33], and we named as "trident" molecules [29]. Their coordination site can be narrower than that of calix [4]arene derivative when functional groups are introduced close to the carbon atom as a junction to tripodal branched groups.…”
