Solvent-Included Ternary Charge-Transfer Salt (BEDT-TTF)2GaCl4(C6H5Cl)0.5, (BEDT-TTF = Bis(ethyelenedithio)-tetrathiafulvalene)

Abstract: Abstract:The synthesis, crystal structure, and conductivity of a solvent-included ternary charge-transfer salt (BEDT-TTF) 2 GaCl 4 (C 6 H 5 Cl) 0.5 (1) is described and interpreted. Electrochemical oxidation of neutral bis(ethyelenedithio)-tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF) in the presence of (Me 4 N)Ga(C 2 O 4 )Cl 2 in a mixture of C 6 H 5 Cl and C 2 H 5 OH yields crystals of 1. Compound 1 crystallized as a monoclinic C 2/c space group with cell parameters: a = 47.0615 (4) .

“…λ-(BETS) 2 M Cl 4 and λ-(STF) 2 M Cl 4 are obtained together with the κ phase [67,68], but they are easy to distinguish because of their different crystal shapes. In contrast, λ-ET salt is difficult to distinguish from the δtype salt, and the λ phase is a minor product [33][34][35], which hampers the study of the AF phase in the universal phase diagram. The present study demonstrates that λ-BEDSe, which can be synthesized without other polymorphs, is an antiferromagnet that can be located on the universal phase diagram.…”

“…To understand why λ-STF does not exhibit any magnetic ordering, physical properties in λ-ET that does not contain asymmetry in its donor molecule should be investigated under pressure. However, several polymorphs are obtained simultaneously in the synthesis of λ-ET, and the main product is δ-(ET) 2 GaCl 4 [33][34][35], which complicates the study of the physical properties of λ-ET. In addition, several polymorphs of (ET) 2 FeCl 4 have been synthesized [36,37], but the λ-type salt has not been obtained.…”
