“…The highest frequency (88.4%) of somatic embryos on MB medium was obtained with 13.57 μM 2,4-D (Table 3, medium 3). It was reported that somatic embryogenesis needed a high concentration of auxins and cytokinins in early stages of embryo induction and development (Sharma et al 2005). However, in this experiment, there was less embryogenesis on 2,4-Dcontaining medium with KT than without.…”

“…However, sometimes they were not effective in embryogenesis inductions (Sharma et al 2005). The balance between auxins and cytokinins can also affect somatic embryogenesis (Ahloowalia 1987;Eapen and George 1993;Fulzele and Satdeve 2003;Sharma et al 2005). We have shown that embryogenic calluses proliferation was affected by the type of explants.…”

“…The 2,4-D, an auxin analog used as herbicide has been shown to play signaling role in induction of SE in many plant systems (Nomura and Komamine 1995). In tree species like Dalbergia sissoo (Singh and Chand 2003) and Buchanania lanzan (Sharma et al 2005), 2,4-D in combination with cytokinin (BA/KIN) has induced embryogenic callus that later differentiated into somatic embryos. In the present study, the callus was produced either in the presence of auxin (2,4-D) or auxin and cytokinin (2,4-D:BA) combinations, but the induced callus remained nonembryogenic until it was subcultured to a medium with a cytokinin (BA or 2iP), where the callus became embryogenic and produced somatic embryos.…”

“…Complete plantlet regeneration has been reported in some medicinal trees such as Azadirachta indica (Quraishi et al 2004a, b), Acacia catechu (Sahini and Gupta 2002) and Terminalia arjuna (Pandey and Jaiswal 2002). Similarly, reports on micropropagation of Aegle marmelos (Ajithkumar and Seeni 1998), Calophyllum inophyllum (Thengane et al 2006), Gmelina arborea (Naik et al 2003), Terminalia chebula (Anjaneyulu et al 2004), Ocotea bullata and Warburgia salutaris (Kowalski and Van Staden 2001), Buchanania lanzan (Sharma et al 2005), Pterocarpus santalinus (Rajeswari and Paliwal 2006) and Simmondsia chinensis (Bashir et al 2007) are also available.…”
