Some Characteristic Properties of Chestnut and Rhododendron Honeys in Turkey

Abstract: T ürkiye'de genellikle Karadeniz bölgesinde üretilen kestane (Castanea sativa Mill.) ve ormangülü (Rhododendron spp. L.) (delibal) balları içerdiği organik bileşenler ve yüksek antioksidan seviyeleri ile bilinen önemli ballardır. Show more

“…Pollen diversity was also higher in the Yığılca local honey bee. Mayda et al (2018) investigated chestnut and Rhododendron honeys in Turkey. In their results, six mixed chestnuts and Rhododendron, two monofloral Rhododendron, and ten monofloral chestnuts honeys were identified.…”

“…In order to understand whether a honey type is monofloral Rhododendron honey, the presence of Rhododendron spp. in honey should be determined by pollen analysis (Mayda et al, 2018;Özkök et al, 2018;Ecem Bayram et al, 2020). Therefore, morphological examination of Rhododendron spp.…”

“…If a pollen type was observed more than 45% in a honey sample, this honey sample was classified as monofloral flower honey. Although this classification is a generalization, for example, for the classification of chestnut honey as a monofloral honey it must contain 70% to 90% of Castanea sativa pollen [22].…”
