Integrating 21st Century Skills into Translation Classroom from Students' Perspective

First coined in the 1980s and instantly redefined ever since, the term "21st-century skills" has transformed education around the world. In their effort to best prepare students to become successful global citizens, teachers have integrated the teaching of 21st-century skills into their classrooms. However, research into how students perceive and incorporate these skills in their learning of such subjects as translation is not as so rigorous. Therefore, this study is aimed at bridging this gap. The research was conducted based on the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) framework. A combination of survey questionnaires from 80 university juniors studying Translation 2 at Van Lang University and 10 interviews with them helped provide data for analysis. The results showed that among the skill sets (P21, 2013), most students gave preference to collaboration, critical thinking, and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) literacy. They also shed some light on what hindered them from developing certain skills in their translation learning. The research, finally, suggests some possible adaptations in syllabus design and teaching approaches that can boost students' 21st-century skills while nurturing future qualified translators.

This case study explores strategies for fostering translation skills in young learners at MI Miftahul Huda Ngadireso, Malang, Indonesia. It delves into the importance of language acquisition during the early stages of education and examines specific methodologies used to enhance translation abilities. The study assesses the impact of interactive and immersive approaches on linguistic development, providing insights into effective pedagogical practices for nurturing basic translational proficiency in young language learners. This study indicates that Shobahul Lughah (morning language learning) effectively improves students’ translating skills. Furthermore, the study emphasises the value of constant practice and exposure to varied language inputs in developing fluency and accuracy in translation tasks. Moreover, the study emphasises the importance of taking a balanced approach to language training that includes both explicit and implicit learning possibilities. While explicit education offers learners systematic guidance and unambiguous explanations of linguistic topics, implicit learning experiences promote inquiry, discovery, and subconscious internalisation of language patterns and conventions. Finally, by embracing novel pedagogical approaches and establishing a supportive learning community, educators may help young students become efficient interpreters and communicators in an increasingly interconnected global world. Translating Vietnamese Sentences Containing the Word Rồi into English Related to English Tenses

In Vietnamese, rồi can help translators choose appropriate English tenses to translate Vietnamese sentences into English. With this study, the researcher wants to indicate the influence of rồi in four Vietnamese works’ sentences on their translators’ selection for appropriate English tenses to have semantically equivalent translations. The study refers to six tenses of simple present (a), simple past (b), present perfect (c), past perfect (d), simple future (e), and near future (f). These sentences were translated into English with (a) if rồi denotes the emphasis on the reality of the event. (b), (c), and (d) are preferred when rồi implies the event that happened in the past. However, using (e) and (f) is not dependent upon the occurrence of rồi because this word does need combination with other words or phrases to denote the meaning of the future. Therefore, understanding the influence of rồi in Vietnamese in different contexts helps Vietnamese people learning English know how to choose the appropriate English tenses when translating Vietnamese sentences containing it into English.
