Sonochemical Coating of Ag-TiO2 Nanoparticles on Textile Fabrics for Stain Repellency and Self-Cleaning- The Indian Scenario: A Review

Abstract: Surface modification is an important element of textile manufacturing. The final properties of a textile material are critical in determining how they perform for their given end use. More recently, botany and nanotechnology have united to explore not only the beauty and cleanliness of the leaf, but also its lack of contamination and bacteria, despite its dwelling in dirty ponds. On the basis of lotus leaf concept scientist developed a new concept "Self cleaning textile" the textile surface which can be cleane… Show more

“…It has many different applications in optics [8], the environment [9], photovoltaics and solar cells [10,11], self-cleaning [12,13] and antimicrobial coatings [14]. In the self-cleaning and antimicrobial applications, the intended mechanism of action is often photocatalytic; in which the action of light on the TiO 2 coating generates active species that may be detrimental to microbes.…”

“…The cotton cloth coated with silver nanoparticles shows anti-bacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Textiles coated silver nanoparticle shows antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and S. aureus [1,3,[4][5][6][8][9], Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis, K. pneumoniae, Candida albicans yeasts, and micromycetes [32]. Presumably, under the impregnation of cotton with metal ions and ironing at 200 °C, the basis of cotton, cellulose, simultaneously reduces of ions and stabilizes the appearing nanoparticles [32].…”

“…The antibacterial material can be developed using silver nanoparticles coated onto textile materials [6][7][8][9]. The antibacterial activity of nylon, polyester, cotton-coated nanoparticles is strongly influenced by the size, shape, chemical properties, and the surface roughness [5]. The antimicrobial silver particles are influenced by particle size.…”

“…Ultrasonic irradiation arisen from acoustic cavitation can produce hot spots with transient temperatures of about 5000 K, and local pressure as high as 500 atm in a very rigorous environment. Hence, the utilization of ultrasound to improve the rate of reaction has become a routine method in scattering, crushing, and activation of particles, as well as initiation of polymerization [9,[11][12][13][14]. Among many inorganic nanoparticles, nanosized titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) is one of the most encouraging inert, nontoxic, and cheap materials in research because of its versatile functions such as antifouling, antimicrobial, deodorizing and photovoltaic effects [15].…”
