Sonographic assessment of optic nerve and ophthalmic vessels in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension

Abstract: Reflected ICP changes on ONSD and papilla, measured by TOS, could be a valuable noninvasive additional tool to diagnose and monitor IIH patients. IIH insignificantly influences ophthalmic vessels hemodynamics. Abbreviation BMI: Body mass index. CSF: Cerebrospinal fluid. EDV: End diastolic velocity. ICP: Intracranial pressure. IH:intracranial hypertension. IIH: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension. LP: Lumbar puncture. MI: Mechanical index. MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging. MRV: Magnetic resonance venography. OA… Show more

“…The interrater reliability has been shown to be very high in several studies, so that for trained examiners no relevant variability effect on the measured values should occur. In over two thirds of the evaluated studies, authors used the mean value from three subsequent measurements to reduce further the effect of intrarater variability.…”

“…14 It should be noted that the effect of elevated ICP on the ophthalmic vessel parameters has not been established yet because of the conflicting reports in the current literature. Ebraheim et al 30 performed color Doppler ophthalmic ultrasound in 24 adult PTCS patients. However, they did not detect any significant differences in the parameters between the patient and healthy control groups.…”
