Sonographically Guided Core Biopsy of A Parotid Mass

Abstract: Sonographically guided core biopsy is a highly accurate technique for evaluation of parotid lesions and can be safely performed as an outpatient procedure. Sonographically guided core biopsy has potential advantages over fine-needle aspiration cytologic examination, particularly in the typing and grading of lymphoma and carcinoma and in improved differentiation of reactive nodal hyperplasia from lymphoma. The use of sonographically guided core biopsy may help reduce the need for surgical biopsy and facilitates… Show more

“…Increased risks related to bleeding, facial nerve injury, and tumor seeding are the main concerns of CNB (29). However, the safety of CNB has been widely accepted (30). Although long-term follow-up results have not yet been published, the effect of CNB in the preoperative diagnosis of salivary gland masses seems promising.…”

“…The retromandibular vein and external carotid artery are the major intraparotid vessels that are well-visualized with US imaging and can be easily avoided. 22 However, the facial nerve is not readily identified with US. 22,23 It has been suggested in previous reports that USFNA carries a lower risk of complications than USCNB.…”
