Source apportionment of gaseous and particulate PAHs from traffic emission using tunnel measurements in Shanghai, China

Abstract: . (2015). "Source apportionment of gaseous and particulate PAHs from traffic emission using tunnel measurements in Shanghai, high-temperature combustion of fuel and gas-to-particle condensation contributed to 32 15-18% and 7-8% of PM10 mass, respectively, but 55-57% of the particle mass was left 33 unexplained. Although the results from the PCA and PMF models were comparable, 34 the PMF method is recommended for source apportionment of PAHs in real traffic 35 conditions. In addition, the combination of multi… Show more

“…Naph, Phen,Flt, Pyr, and Fluo were the most concentrated pollutants. These findings point towards the predominantly traffic-related sources for the semi-volatile PAHs [20,22,23]. The highest value of the CP index calculated on the basis of equation (1) was found for Konin site (77.3).…”

“…On one hand it is due to a greater deposition of these contaminants on leaf surface resulting from a higher emissions of several pollutants in winter, mainly due to domestic heating [14] and on the other hand due to cumulative properties of leaves surface. Commonly the investigation of PAHs deposit is made using the one-and second-year needles collected in summer and winter time and the PAHs ratios have been used by many authors [18][19][20][21] to identify sources of PAHs.…”

“…Mansuy-Huault et al (2009) proved that the origin of petroleum products can be narrowed down by adding a special tracer (aliphatic hydrocarbons) to the main tracers (PAHs), but all molecular markers applied in their study were organics. Liu et al (2015a) supposed that theoretically adding metal concentration data to original PAH data might reduce the unidentified sources.…”

“…We also attempted to analyze the loading plots of metals and PAHs bound to PM 10 . One study used a combination of loading and score plots to identify possible PAH source categories, which also produced good results in our previous work [14,21]. PCA was applied to th e PM elemental data, yielding the loading plots presented in Fig 3. PCA revealed principal components with eigenvalues >1, accounting for total variance >70%.…”

“…BbF, Chr, Baa, and some other high molecular weight PAHs were more abundant in winter than in summer. These high molecular weight PAH species can be used as source markers for coal combustion [21], indicating that coal combustion emission s ources may be more important in the fl ooding season than in the dry season.…”
