South Australian clinical registry for metastatic colorectal cancer

Abstract: The treatment of patients with metastatic CRC continues to progress with modern medical and surgical developments. Important insights into the current patterns of care and clinical outcomes for metastatic CRC are provided by these data. In addition, this registry provides a feasible and useful database for the evaluation of current treatments established as best evidence in this population.

“…Three and 5-year survival rates of 53.4e70.1% and 39.6e43.4% respectively have been reported for surgical metastasectomy. 16,26 Our 3 year survival of 44% is in keeping with the available literature for RFA of pulmonary CRC metastases 20,28,32,38,39 and would seem adequate as compared to metastasectomy, especially considering that these patients were either considered unsuitable for metastasectomy or would not consent to surgery. This result of 44% seems even more promising when considering that more than 75% of our cohort had disease below the diaphragm at the time of RFA treatment.…”

The registry aims to identify all mCRC cases in SA through hospital encounters, histopathology reports, medical oncology letters, clinician notification, attendances at multidisciplinary meetings and death audits by the SA Cancer Registry.…”
