“…[16][17][18] SPS is currently used to produce various high-temperature ceramic composites, such as α-Sialon/SiC, Al 2 O 3 -Ti, SiC-ZrC, TiB 2 /Fe-15Cr-8Al-20Mn, nanocrystalline ZrB 2 , and nano-laminated Ti 3 SiC 2 composites. [19][20][21][22][23][24] The yield strength and ultimate compressive strength of TiB w /TA15 composites, sintered by rapid current assisted sintering, are 1172.5 MPa and 1818.4 MPa, respectively. 25 SPS sintered composites have good mechanical properties.…”

“…The unique sintering mechanism of SPS can clean the grain boundary, enhance the bonding quality, and improve the thermoelectric properties of ceramics 16–18 . SPS is currently used to produce various high‐temperature ceramic composites, such as α‐Sialon/SiC, Al 2 O 3 ‐Ti, SiC‐ZrC, TiB 2 /Fe‐15Cr‐8Al‐20Mn, nanocrystalline ZrB 2 , and nano‐laminated Ti 3 SiC 2 composites 19–24 . The yield strength and ultimate compressive strength of TiB w /TA15 composites, sintered by rapid current assisted sintering, are 1172.5 MPa and 1818.4 MPa, respectively 25 .…”

“…[7] Pressure-assisted sintering methods such as hot pressing (HP) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) were encouraged and used in industry to prepare full density ZrB 2 with simple shapes. [8][9][10][11][12][13] With HP technology, ZrB 2 ceramics with the relative density of 97% were obtained after sintering at 2200 °C for 2 h under 50 MPa. [8] SPS technology could facilitate densification and improve mechanical properties of ZrB 2 with the assistance of electrical field.…”

“…[8] SPS technology could facilitate densification and improve mechanical properties of ZrB 2 with the assistance of electrical field. [10][11][12][13] Chakraborty reported that a high relative density of 98.65% was achieved with pulsed direct current by controlling 50 ms pulse on and 5 ms pulse off mode. [10] Densified ZrB 2 ceramics with the relative density of 80-97% were obtained by SPS at 1800 to 1950 °C.…”

“…Zirconium boride (ZrB2) materials are considered to have applications as ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTC), on the basis of high-melting point (3250 o C), good thermal shock resistance and moderate chemical stability [1][2][3][4][5] . Arising from strong covalent bonding and low self-diffusion coefficients, the densification of high purity ZrB2 powder material remains difficult, which could be completed by hot-pressing at over 2000 o C [6] or spark plasma sintering at over 1900 o C [7] , and often necessitates the addition of a sintering aid such as SiC to assist densification, whilst improving oxidation resistance and mechanical properties [8][9][10][11][12] . The production of dense ZrB2 ceramics may also be achieved through improving the properties of the constituent precursor material, through control of the primary particle size.…”
