“…During spontaneous myelinogenesis, OPCs develop into mature oligodendrocytes (OLs) through activation, migratory recruitment, proliferation, and differentiation, leading to myelination [9,10]. In a recent study, the development of OPCs and the generation of myelin in the hippocampus mbria were impaired when a 7-day-old mouse was exposed to sevo urane [11].…”

“…Data revealed that clemastine enhanced myelination and could reverse cognitive dysfunction induced by isoflurane ( Li et al, 2019 ). Similarly, clemastine injected intraperitoneally (10 mg/kg/day) in mice on postnatal days 6 to 8 enhanced OLs maturation and myelination, and thus alleviated sevoflurane-induced cognitive impairment ( Zhang et al, 2022 ), indicating that although doses differed, long-term and short-term treatments with clemastine could rescue developmental cognitive impairment induced by anesthetics.…”

“…Sevoflurane (Sev) is one of the most commonly used general anesthetics in pediatric anesthesia due to its advantages of rapid induction, low respiratory irritation, and rapid recovery ( Patel & Goa, 1996 ). Various animal studies have confirmed that repeated exposure to general anesthetics during development can result in long-term cognitive impairment, fine motor injury, and social impairment in mice ( Tang et al, 2021 ; Wu et al, 2020 ; Xu et al, 2021 ; Zhang et al, 2022b ; Zhang et al, 2023 ) and non-human primates ( Neudecker et al, 2021 ). However, many questions regarding the long-term effects of general anesthesia on brain development remain unanswered.…”
