“…3h) With the exception of Bravone (Sb and Zn) and Plateau des Chèvres (As), these TEs have relatively small spatial variation. Levels of Zn and As found in this study correspond to unpolluted sites when compared to the literature (Tranchina et al, 2004;Fourqurean et al, 2007). The high Sb levels detected only at Bravone could be attributed to the As/Sb deposit at Matra.…”

“…Spatial variation of Sn, Bi, V, Mo, Ag, Sb, As, Zn, Al, Cr, Co and Pb (a-l) levels in Posidonia oceanica above-ground tissues at the 18 sites: Ensuès (1), La Vesse (2), Corbière (3), P. Chèvres (4), Riou (5), Bénat (6), Giens (7), Cap Roux (8), St Raphaël (9), Antibes (10), Villefranche (11), Calvi (I), Aregno (II), St Florent (III), Taglio Isolaccio (IV), Bravone (V), Ajaccio Sud (VI) and Ajaccio Nord (VII); x-axis labels indicate the sites along the coasts (1-11: PACA; I-VII: Corsica); levels are expressed as mean ± standard deviation in g gDW −1 . determined by Fourqurean et al (2007) in the Balearic Islands (Spain), and by Warnau et al (1995) and Pergent-Martini (1994) at Calvi and Marseilles. However, no extreme level was determined at the 18 selected sites, as measured by Warnau et al (1995) at Lacco Ameno (419 ± 431 g g DW −1 ; Ischia Island, Italy).…”

“…The seasonal cycle of nitrogen content and the isotopic signature of P. oceanica leaves are well documented. In Mallorca, Fourqurean et al (2007) reported an annual fluctuation of 0.6‰, whereas Vizzini et al (2003) reported a fluctuation of +2‰ between summer and winter in Marsala, Italy. We found that the δ 15 N value at the natural site was 1.9‰, and the maximal variability was observed near the entrance of the harbor, with a 2.7‰ difference between the maximum and minimum values.…”

“…The δ 15 N for P. oceanica leaves in pristine sites were reported to be 2.2 ± 0.9‰ in Corsica (Lepoint et al, 2003), 2.5 ± 0.4‰ in Croatia (Dolenec et al, 2006), 3.4 ± 0.9‰ in Sicily (Vizzini et al, 2005) and 3.7 ± 1.1‰ in the Balearic Islands (Fourqurean et al, 2007). In the current study, the values that we found for the site close to the open sea (between 2.6 ± 0.1‰ and 4.4 ± 0.3‰) fall within the range of those previously reported and allow us to consider this site as a reference, at least with respect to anthropic nitrogen levels.…”

“…Overall, primary producers showed greater values than other food web components especially for As and Pb. In particular, As was greater than in contaminated seagrass ecosystems (e.g., Balearic Islands-Spain, Fourqurean et al 2007). Pb in macroalgae was comparable with that of uncontaminated sites (Favignana Island-Italy, Campanella et al 2001), whereas in seagrasses it was greater than in a slightly contaminated marine-coastal area (port of Favignana Island-Italy, Campanella et al 2001; Island of Ischia-Italy, SchlacherHoenlinger and Schlacher 1998).…”
