Electric vehicles (EVs) are seen as a solution to reduce transport-related greenhouse gas emissions. A major obstacle to wider adoption is the insufficient amount of charging stations. Furthermore, supplying charging stations with renewable energy is still in its infancy. The selection of optimal locations for charging stations is important to best serve the users and maximise the possibilities of renewable energy use. Given this background, this study developed an approach for Solar-supplied Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) location selection by combining EVCS and solar farm site selection studies using Geographical Information System (GIS) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The study determined the most important criteria for site selection based on previous solar and EVCS site selection studies and expert opinions. The 10 most important criteria according to the survey results were: availability of power, solar energy potential, solar panel installation cost, number of EVs, operation and management costs, land cost, distance from roads/highways, distance from current EVCSs, industrial capability of installation and distance to high population density centres. The importance weights of these criteria were assigned using AHP method. The findings are expected to benefit urban planners, decision-makers, and researchers designing solar-supplied EV charging infrastructure.

Energy requirements have increased dramatically due to industrialization, economic, and population growth. To meet this demand, and solve its challenges, such as climate change, renewable energies do play an important role. This research work aims at selecting the best renewable energy projects using a hybrid decision-making framework from environmental, economic, technical, and social aspects at a sub-national level. In this regard, a new hybrid fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making model is deployed in which Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje, distance from average solution, and additive ratio assessment methods are used. In addition, for the weighing of criteria, Fuzzy Shannon’s entropy is used. Furthermore, the North Khorasan province is nominated as a sub-national study area. The results show that among 30 sub-criteria, social acceptance, net-presented cost, and noise were the top three with weights of 0.1105, 0.1003, and 0.0988, respectively. Solar energy projects also accomplished high ranks with an overall score of roughly 0.22. After that, small hydropower got second place with a score of 0.187. Moreover, the ranking of cities indicates that Jajarm was the most suitable location for implementing renewable energy development with a score of 0.14. Finally, sensitivity analysis was carried out to show that the mathematical model possessed good robustness.

Solar energy is a critical component of the energy development strategy. The location of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants has a significant impact on the cost of power production. A favorable situation would result in significant cost savings and increased electricity generation efficiency. California is located in the United States of America's southwest region, a place blessed with an abundance of solar energy. In recent years, the state's economy and population have expanded quickly, resulting in increased need for power. The study examines south of California for an area that is well-suited for the building of large photovoltaic (PV) plants to meet local electricity needs. To begin, this article imposed some limits on the selection of three potential solar project locations (S1, S2, and S3). Then, a more systematic approach to solar plant site selection was presented, focusing on five major characteristics (economic, technological, social, geographical, and environmental). This is the first time that the Choosing by Advantages (CBA) approach has been used to determine the locations of photovoltaic (PV) plants, with possible locations ranked S2>S1>S3. It was compared to more classic methodologies such as Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM). The findings of this study suggest that the CBA strategy not only streamlines the solar plant selection process, but also more closely aligns with the objectives and desires of investors.
