Spatially Inhomogeneous Superconducting State near Hc2 in UPd2Al3

Abstract: We have performed 27 Al-NMR measurements on single-crystalline UPd2Al3 with the field parallel to the c axis to investigate the superconducting (SC) properties near the upper critical field of superconductivity Hc2. The broadening of the NMR linewidth below 14 K indicates the appearance of the internal field at the Al site, which originates from the antiferromagnetically ordered moments of U 5f electrons. In the SC state well below µ0Hc2 = 3.4 T, the broadening of the NMR linewidth due to the SC diamagnetism a… Show more

“…In UTe 2 , by adopting Δγ el ∼ 60 mJ mol −1 K −2 [6] and A hf determined from a K -χ plot [44], ΔK γ along the b and c axes are estimated and are shown in table 3, where we used (μ eff ) 2 = g 2 j( j + 1)μ 2 B = 3μ 2 B for the free-electron value (g = 2, j = 1/2) and R = 1. In the table 3, the experimental reduction of K in the SC state ΔK spin and these values in UPd 2 Al 3 [125,126] and URu 2 Si 2 [127] are also shown. It is noted that ΔK γ determined by this method is in good agreement with ΔK spin in UPd 2 Al 3 [124] and URu 2 Si 2 [127], which are identified as a spin-singlet superconductors.…”

“…Actually, a clear decrease in the Knight shift was reported in the U-based superconductor UPd 2 Al 3 , which is a spin-singlet superconductor coexisting with the antiferromagnetism. 127,128) For a spin-triplet superconductor, the spin component of the Cooper pair is expressed by the SC d vector, which is defined to be perpendicular to the spin component of the Cooper pair, and the Knight shift decreases below T SC when H is applied parallel to the d vector fixed along a certain crystal axis. However, the situation is not so simple in the present FM superconductors.…”

“…It is noted that such an enhancement of 1/T 1 T was not observed in UPd 2 Al 3 which is also a candidate for observing the FFLO state. We recently performed 27 Al-NMR measurements on single-crystalline UPd 2 Al 3 with the field parallel to the c axis, and we discovered an unexpected symmetrical broadening in the NMR spectra in the field range 3 T < µ 0 H < µ 0 H c2 = 3.6 T, suggesting the presence of a spatially inhomogeneous SC state such as the FFLO state [37]. However in the case of UPd 2 Al 3 , 1/T 1 T did not increase, remaining at a constant value just below µ 0 H c2 (T ) before beginning to decrease below 3 T, in contrast to the results obtained using CeCu 2 Si 2 and κ-(BEDT-TTF) 2 Cu(NCS) 2 .…”
