With the rapid development of urbanization and population growth, the ecological environment in the Yellow River Delta has undergone significant changes. In this study, Landsat satellite data and Google Earth Engine (GEE) were utilized to dynamically evaluate the changes in eco-environmental quality in the Yellow River Delta region using the remote sensing ecological index (RSEI). Additionally, the CASA model was used to estimate net primary productivity (NPP) and explore the relationship between vegetation NPP, land-use and land-cover change (LUCC), and eco-environmental quality to reveal the complexity and related factors of eco-environmental quality changes in this region. The results show that: (1) Over the past 20 years, the eco-environmental quality in the Yellow River Delta region has changed in a “V” shape. The eco-environmental quality near the Yellow River Basin is relatively better, forming a diagonal “Y” shape, while the areas with poorer eco-environmental quality are mainly distributed in the coastal edge region of the Yellow River Delta. (2) The response of vegetation NPP to eco-environmental quality in the Yellow River Delta region is unstable. (3) Urban construction land in the Yellow River Delta region is strongly correlated with RSEI, and the absolute value of the dynamic degree of land use is as high as 8.78%, with significant land transfer changes. The correlation between arable land and RSEI is weak, while coastal mudflats are negatively correlated with RSEI, with the minimum absolute value of the dynamic degree of land use being −1.01%, and significant land transfer changes. There is no correlation between forest land and RSEI. Our research results can provide data support for the eco-environmental protection and sustainable development of the Yellow River Delta region and help local governments to take corresponding measures.

Net primary production (NPP) can regulate global climate change and carbon balance. Although scholars have qualitatively studied the influencing factors of NPP, few have quantified the contribution of different degrees of drought aggravation or mitigation and major land-use changes to NPP changes. Based on the temporal and spatial characteristics of NPP for 2000-2015 in the Chinese Loess Plateau, we quantified the contribution of drought, land use and land cover change (LUCC), and hydrothermal conditions to changes in NPP. Particularly, we analyzed the contribution of major land-use change and different drought levels to NPP. Our results showed that the 15-years average NPP was approximately 227 gC/m 2 and decreased from southeast to northwest. Overall, NPP showed a linear increasing trend over the 15-years period. The results suggested that changes in hydrothermal conditions had the strongest impact on NPP (~61%), followed by drought (~33%), and land use and land cover change had the weakest impact (~1.4%). In particular,~13% of the NPP decreases was affected by light drought aggravation,~10% of the NPP decreases was affected by moderate drought aggravation, and~0.3% was affected by the conversion of cropland to grassland or non-NPP main production land. Moreover,~12.7% of the NPP increase was affected by light drought alleviation,~9.4% was affected by moderate drought alleviation, and~1.1% was affected by the conversion of grassland to cropland or forestland. The mechanisms underlying the effect of drought and land-use change on NPP were clarified and provide an important reference value for future research on the carbon cycle and regional ecological environmental restoration.

Soil salinization can have an inhibitory effect on crop productivity and pose a serious threat to regional agricultural resource utilization and sustainable development. However, there are scarce studies on the quantitative impact of soil salinization on crop productivity. The purpose of this study is to identify the spatial and temporal characteristics of the cultivated land, the soil salinization degree, and the net primary productivity (NPP) of vegetation in the Shandong region around the Bohai Sea and to couple the quantitative relationship between soil salinization and the productivity of the cultivated land. We found that the amount of cultivated land in the study area gradually decreased from 2001 to 2019. The degree of soil salinization in the cultivated land in the north of the study area increased slightly from 2001 to 2005 and decreased continuously after 2011. The NPP value of the cultivated land increased, fluctuating from 2001 to 2019. The spatial distribution of the NPP value was generally lower in the north than in the south, with Dongying District as the boundary. In addition, in different soil salt content (g/kg) intervals, the change trends in cultivated land NPP varied. When the salt content of cultivated soil was in the range of 0–3 g/kg, 3–7 g/kg, or 7–15 g/kg, for every 1 g/kg increase in salt content, the NPP value decreased by 43.62 gC m−2a−1, 30.36 gC m−2a−1, and 44.19 gC m−2a−1, respectively. These results are expected to provide decision-making support for strengthening the dynamic monitoring and regulation of cultivated land salinization and promoting sustainable utilization of salinized cultivated land in the coastal areas to alleviate the food crisis.
