Spatio-Temporal Features and Influencing Factors of Homesteads Expansion at Village Scale

Abstract: The current research on the change of homesteads has rarely combined spatial information, and no expansion research has been found with a scale as detailed as the level of the homestead plots. Understanding the changing rules of homesteads expansion and its influencing factors are important to homestead reform, optimization of village layout, and cultivated land protection. In order to explore the direction, level, and spatial pattern of homesteads expansion from 2010 to 2020 and the influencing factors, by ta… Show more

“…In space, the in uence of topography and landform features on the site selection of water conservancy facilities in the Ming and Qing Dynasties can be divided into two directions: horizontal and vertical. Therefore, slope direction is selected as a variable to re ect the horizontal topographic data of the site of water conservancy facilities [23] , and slope is used as a variable to re ect its vertical data [24] . Both of these data can characterize the maximum change characteristics of the topography and landform within the scope of the site of water conservancy facilities.…”

“…In terms of the layout, there is a gradual concentration toward roads, rivers, and low-altitude areas [34,62]. On the methodological front, research on rural human settlements has employed various approaches, such as RS/GIS spatial analysis [63,64], social surveys [65], regression analysis [48], kernel density estimation [66], geographic detectors [67], and landscape pattern analysis [68]. At the scale level, the existing research predominantly focuses on regional studies at various scales, including provincial [69], municipal [70], county [71], village [67], and other levels [72].…”

At the scale level, the existing research predominantly focuses on regional studies at various scales, including provincial [69], municipal [70], county [71], village [67], and other levels [72]. Some researchers have found that, in the rural areas of China, where the rural homestead system predominates, there are systemic issues leading to a phenomenon of "the rural population decreasing while rural human settlements are expanding".…”
