Spatiotemporal analysis of rabies in cattle in central Mexico

Abstract: Spatial epidemiology of bat-transmitted rabies in cattle has been limited to spatial distribution of cases, an approach that does not identify hidden patterns and the spread resulting in outbreaks in endemic and susceptible areas. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the three variables average annual maximum, annual minimum temperature and precipitation in the region on the one hand, and the spatial distribution of cases on the other, using geographic information syst… Show more

“…The annual incidence trend showed above 100 rabies cases during 2005-2007. The increased cases during this period might be attributed to absence of the programs for mass vaccination and stray dog population management [28,31,32]. After 2008, few animal welfare organization (NGOs) such as Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre in 2008 and Animal Nepal, in Kathmandu focused on stray dog population management along with rabies vaccination, thereby contributing towards rabies reduction in Kathmandu, Nepal.…”

“…The data analysis results in the recent five years showed that the trend of reported cases of rabies in Hubei Province was flat, and there were no regional outbreaks or largescale outbreaks. Admittedly, due to the increase in the autotrophic pet population, [11][12][13][14][15] the number of animal exposures in the past five years has generally shown an increasing trend, which brings challenges to the prevention and control of rabies. However, the incidence of rabies has remained stable in a relatively small range during five years.…”

“…Un estudio en México encontró que sin importar las características ambientales la distribución de murciélagos vampiro fue en aumento (39) . Al respecto, otro estudio realizado en México usando MaxEnt determinó a través de condiciones bioclimáticas para el periodo de 2050-2070, que el 30 % del paisaje mexicano proporcionará un hábitat idóneo para el D. rotundus debido a los cambios en los regímenes climáticos.…”
