Abstract:Purpose Nutrients from cropland and feedlot operations can move through preferential pathways into wetlands, groundwater, and surface water, which can cause adverse health and ecological problems. It is hypothesized that nitrogen (N) can cause a short-term contamination of soils and groundwater beneath feedlots, but phosphorus (P) can cause both short-and long-term contamination in well-drained soils. This paper examines the spatial and temporal distribution of nutrients within an abandoned feedlot and adjacen… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
