“…During ASO peak, TCNO 2 is located over the Cerrado region where savannah‐type fires (both natural and anthropogenic) burn at high temperatures (Hodgson et al, ) releasing large quantities of NO x (Akagi et al, ). There will also be contributions from deforestation and agricultural fires (e.g., de Araújo et al, ). In comparison, TCNO 2 hot spots over large cities (e.g., São Paulo and Rio De Janeiro) show limited seasonality, remaining above 5.0 × 10 15 molecules per cm 2 year‐round.…”

“…6 shows the LULC classes map derived from the 100 m PROBA-V mosaic of the year 2015 for the entire country. This map shows the agricultural frontiers from western Bahia State [60], south of Piauí and Maranhão States (MATOPIBA agricultural frontier) [61], southwest of Goiás State, and central part of Mato Grosso State. The fish-bone type, clear-cut deforestation mostly found in the states of Rondônia and Pará [62], and the large spot of savanna formations in the north of Roraima State [63] were also clearly detected.…”

“…The northern region of Mato Grosso State, Brazil, comprises the southern portion of the Amazon and its transition zone with the Cerrado biome. Due to the advance of the agricultural frontiers and livestock husbandry and the expansion of cities, the conversion of natural habitats into economically active areas has been accelerated in this region, causing sudden changes in the landscape (Araújo et al 2019, Renó & Novo 2019. The current result is a landscape mosaic consisting of remnants of natural vegetation isolated in fragments, both in urban and rural areas.…”
