“…The binding constants of the complexes can be determined by pH measurements, by potentiometric titration with specific electrodes, or by polarography (Jarvis and Wagener, 1995;Kobayashi et al, 1987;Pshezhetskii and Polinskii, 1981;Rumeau et al, 1992;Thiele and Gronau, 1963;Zezin et al, 1977). They can be also determined through the change of some specific, nonthermodynamic properties of either species involved (Mandel, 1988); e.g., the changes in the IR, visible, and UV absorption spectra of groups on the polymer chain or of the bound metallic complexes, or both (Geckeler et al, 1980;Perrine and Landis, 1967;Pshezhetskii and Polinskii, 1981). It is also possible to evaluate the binding constants by UF or equilibrium dialysis of solutions of metal ions and polymeric ligands (Ahmadi et al, 1994;Buffle and Staub, 1984;Juang and Liang, 1993;Masse et al, 1987;Pshezhetskii and Polinskii, 1981;Rumeau et al, 1992).…”
