“…In Indian coastal waters, only two species were reported: R. squaliceps (Alcock, 1894) from the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea (Sumod, 2018) and Pakistan coast (Psomadakis et al ., 2015), and R. ectenurus (Jordan & Richardson, 1909) from the west coast of India (Kotthaus, 1968; Manilo & Bogorodsky, 2003; Venu, 2013). Although Kotthaus (1968) mentioned that his R. ectenurus specimens were collected from about 80 m depth, Venu (2009, 2013) collected them from more than 200 m depth and hence these specimens need further examination (no voucher specimen could be accessed for this study).…”

Of these, two species of the genus Rhynchoconger , R. squaliceps (Alcock, 1894) and R. ectenurus (Jordan & Richardson, 1909), were reported from Indian waters previously, R. ectenurus from the west coast of India (Kotthaus, 1968; Manilo & Bogorodsky, 2003; Venu, 2013) and R. squaliceps from the Andhra Pradesh coast (Bay of Bengal; Alcock, 1894).…”
